Winter Fun Near Hershey, PA: A Day Skiing at Ski Roundtop

Earlier this week week we talked about doing things in Lancaster, Pa. A Day in Lancaster, PA: Coffee, Markets & Local Charm

Here is another favorite for some of our Team Shope Members!

After a fresh snowfall over a January weekend, my son Jaden and I decided to enjoy the gift he got me for Christmas, a ski day together. We took off for Ski Roundtop. The drive was an easy one

from the Palmyra/Hershey area. Jaden is 16 so got to practice his driving skills. 😀 We arrived within about 1 hour. Parking is in an upper area so either pack wisely with what you’ll need to carry or take their shuttle to the slopes. Jaden had his own equipment so because we purchased our lift tickets online, he was able to get right on the slopes. He didn’t though because I had to rent skis, boots, and a helmet, so he found us seats in the lodge to put out bags and waited patiently for me. The rental line was long but moved us through fairly quickly.

We got ourselves ready in the lodge and then hit the slopes. It was a partly sunny winter day but a busy one since it was a holiday. We hit the bunny slope first since I had to reacquaint myself with skis and snow on a downhill. Funny how skills like this seem to come back naturally, like riding a bike. Jaden and I enjoyed skiing together for this first couple hours. Then since Jaden has started taking up skiing and has found a real enjoyment out of it, he went off to the bigger slopes for a few trips. Around lunchtime, we took a break and went to the lodge to eat our packed lunch and get warmed up. If you want to purchase food they also have a cafeteria. After lunch we went back out and wrapped up our ski day with another couple hours of skiing before heading home around 3:00.

We had a great time being together and even though the slopes were busy, we enjoyed the fresh snow, beautiful day, and friendly staff and people. Also make sure you get a hot chocolate to enjoy on your way home. Overall Ski Roundtop is a great place to ski in Central PA.

Some fun at Ski Roundtop

Jaden and Shonna went a couple years back and wrote about it here.

There’s something special about fresh snow, family time, and being just an hour from home. If you’re looking for a quick winter getaway near Hershey or Palmyra, Ski Roundtop is the perfect spot.
